KINO-Balopox is an interactive artistic game inspired, in part, by the well-known surealist game : the « cadavre exquis ».
By game, we mean an happy artistic collaboration, highly stimulating and totaly experimental, of different artists belonging to the Kanibal’hopox network.
This project will involve, as we hope, between 25 and 30 artists.
As its name suggests, the final form of KINO-Balopox will be a movie. But, not a movie composed with shooted vidéos : a movie composed with still pictures (photographies) + sounds + voice-recordings.
By way of exemple we could refer to the Chris Marker movie « La jetée ».
The KINO-Balopox movie, with a duration close to 30 minutes, will be highly experimental.
Just as much of the final result, the interest of KINO-Balhopox lies in the collective proces of creation : the interaction of the different personal works.
The game will start the 1st january 2017 and will ends the 30 july. During this period, each participant will have one week for achieve his work :
1 Soundscape (2 minutes)
1 Voice-recording (1 minute)
The final edit of the movie will be made by Dropp.
If this project is, by nature, audiovisual, it is not limited to profecional film makers. It is intended to any artist interessed, at least for this events, by photographic and sound creation. So, as we will see next, while following the rules of the game, any participant can freely develop his own artistic works into this project.
The chronological aspect of this game, like in a « cadavre exquis », is fondamental.
Next december, Dropp will proceed to a drawing of lots for determining the chronological order of participants and register them, with their agreement, into the shedule.
The game will start the 1st january 2017 and will ends the 30 july. During this period, each participant will have one week for achieve his work. From sunday to sunday, they will follow them, continuing the collective story.
All the exchanges between participants and with the Dropp organisation will be made by emails.
This illustration discribe the game process from a fictif participant’s point of view : Mr. Green.
In this exemple, the sunday 12 february, Mr. Green recieve from the previous participant, Mrs. Brown, an email containing 1 picture and a 2 minutes soundscape.
This email is the starting point of the Mr. Green’s week.
Exactly like in a « cadavre exquis », he doesn’t know nothing about the precedent works exept the material recieved. Then, he doesn’t use this material directly in his own work but in reaction with : « continuing the story ».
Mr. Green produce : 2 photographies, a 1 minute voice-recording and a 2 minutes sound-scape.
Next sunday, he send to the next participant, Mr. Blue, his second picture + his soundscape AND he send his entire production to Dropp.
Dropp will collect weeks after weeks, the individual materials and will compose the final edit of KINO-Balhopox movie.
The final result of KINO-Balhopox will be a collective movie. So, every participant have to consider his own production in that perspective, focusing on the chronological aspect of the game and respecting strictly the following constraints.
For explain the whole concept of KINO-Balopox, as clear as possible, let see the final step of editing (which will be entirely made by Dropp).
The materials created by each participant, like Mr. Green, is intended to the final vidéo-timeline.
The first picture of Mr. Green (G1) follows the Mrs.Brown’s seconde one (B2), interacting directly with it. It could be by breaking or by extending… that is an artistic choice.
His voice-recording is placed on the Mrs.Brown’s seconde picture AND his first personal one BUT not on his second picture (G2) wich naturally follow !
So, during working weeks, each participant have to create his voice-recording by following this paterns.
The sound-scape cover the entire sequence of Mr. Green: from B2 to G2.
All this material constitute the Mr Green’s sequence.
By putting his voice-recording on top of Mrs.Brown’s picture, Mr. Green interact directly with it : his vocal narration + his soundscape influence directly the visual signification of Mrs.Brown’s picture.
Next participant, Mr. Blue, will do the same : on the timeline, his soundscape and voice will be placed on the Mr. Green second picture - continuing the story.
In this way, there will be a real in-time interaction, a nice crossover beetween participants into the final editing result.
Into the editing timeline, the soundscapes will permit a fluide transition between all different works, by using crossfades, always on second pictures (B2, G2, B2 etc..).
The two minutes duration will help us to make confortably the final edit BUT it doesn’t determinate the final duration of personal sequences.
Be carrefull, that is a very important point !
The duration of pictures displaying on screen is related to the voice-recording duration.
So, participants will never decide the duration of their second picture. It will be made by the next participant of the game, who will put a voice-recording on it.
Also, as we see clearly into the timeline, voice-recordings are divided in two parts : because they are intented to two different pictures.
The entire duration of voice-recordings is limited to one minute, but, with the two parts division, this one minute time is highly flexible. It is for each participant an artistic choice in terme of rythm.
For exemple, Mr. Green decided to display B2 20 seconds on screen and G1 40 seconds (conforming with the duration of his two-parts voice-recording).
He used entierly the one minute time allowed, but, it can be less. Like Mr. Blue did (10sc. / 15sc.)
The artistic aspect of those visual and audio creations is totaly free. There is no specific thematics or formal constraints. Those personal works can be abstrac, figuratif, minimalist, dedicated to fiction or to documentary, poetic, politic etc…
Despite of this artistic freedom, for coherence of the final result, participants have to respect the following rules.
Photographies have to be realised by the participant himself. They can’t be taken from internet, a magazine or a secondhand market, for exemple.
Those two pictures can be made specialy for the KINO-balopox occasion, during the week dedicated, OR taken from personal archives (some old works, vacation snapshots…).
Color and black and white are accepted.
Photographies can be realised with digital cameras or in argentic supports. In this second case, argentic photographies have to be scanned, digitalised and eventualy croped by the participant before the email sending.
The pictures quality have to be less compressed as possible and respecting the size of original picture sended by Dropp to the first participant.
Like for pictures, the voices must be recorded by the participant himself, but, not necessary his own voice. For exemple, in a documentary prupose, the participant can perfectly realise an interview of a third persone.
The text recorded can be freely improvised or carefully pre-writed. Also, it can be spoken by different persons : it is not limited to the participant as a lonely narator, it also could be a dialogue or an artistic polyphony.
The maximum duration is one minute, but, during this time, recordings are not necessary full of words… participants have to consider silence, rythm, tone of voice, like important aspects of those creations.
Into the timeline, voice-recordings will be split in two (continuous) parts.
Participants can make two different recordings for each part or only a continuous one. In this case, they will have to transmit a timecode information to Dropp, for indicate where the second part begin.
Last important point: the language recorded have to be, imperatively, the native language of the participant.
They can be recorded manualy by the participant, specialy for this occasion OR, unlike the photos and voices, they can be taken from a pre-existant support. From internet for exemple.
In all cases, the soundscape can be very basical : a one shot minimalist ambiant recording or, for someone who want to experiment deeper audio works, a more sophisticated composition.
Music is not forbiden… but… not so encouraged.

TECHNICAL ASPECT AND TOOLS
As we already say, this project is not reserved to filmakers. We really want that people without any knowledge in audio technics recording of argentic photography can participate to KINO-Balopox.
We don’t want to limited the participation to people who have some professional photo cameras or high-technological sounds recorders.
Photographies interest shouldn’t been based on the quality of the camera used and sounds recordings can easily been recorded with a dictaphone or a cheap microphone.
Of course, as best the quality of personal pictures and sounds will be, as best the final collective movie will be.
All the editing of KINO-Balhopox movie will be made by Dropp. Participants only have to concentrate on they personal works, during the week dedicated.
The final movie will be export in multilanguages originals version : a mix of Catalonian, French, German, Lithuanian, Portugeis..
At first it will be subtitled in English. For that, each participant have to transmit to Dropp, in a text document, the English translation of their voice-recording,
In future, Kanibal’hopox different structures will be able, if they want, to traduce it on their national (or régional) language.
In a technical aspect, if someone have trouble to realise photographies, sounds-work, or having problems with the computer convertions and sendings : Dropp will stay in contact for help.
